A Potted history of Whimple Cricket ClubUpcoming Events!
Hire Charges!
The Club and Ground are available to hire.
Charges from £20.00 to £60.00 Contact R Smith on: 01404 822244 for details Cricket was played at Whimple on the old ground (Slewton Field) as early as the 1920s.
Mr Richard Whiteway was the driving force behind the Club in this post war period.
He died tragically in a car crash in 1980.
The Club suffered further in 1989 when Whiteways Cyder factory was closed.
The new owners of the Company Allied Domecq saw the Slewton Field as an ideal area for housing development.
The Cricket Club was offered a new site at Knowle Cross.
However, the site required levelling and a new pavilion.
Under the Chairmanship of Mr Herbert Breyley and the assistance of the Company and the Whiteway family the Club eventually moved to its new premises in May 1991.
